  • The YFS Tax Clinic is a CRA supported initiative that runs as part of the CVITP (Community Volunteer Income Tax Program), where trained volunteers help eligible individuals file their simple tax returns for free, using the UFile software. For questions on whether your tax requirements fit the eligibility criteria, please read below.

We will be operational virtually and in person, from the 2nd of March to the 27th of March, Monday to Friday, from 11 am to 5 pm. We will be unable to provide any more tax sessions after this filing period has passed.

Please note, when registering for our tax clinic sessions, you will need to book a separate individual session for each tax year’s return that is to be filed. Our volunteers will not be able to help you file tax returns for multiple years in one session only.

  • The YFS Tax Clinic is committed to helping both international and domestic students file their tax returns for free, provided you fit the eligibility criteria mentioned above. In the case of international students, any returns that include complex international income or foreign property gains cannot be filed with our tax clinic.

  • In accordance with CVITP and CRA regulations, any tax and financial information you provide us with is secure and protected, and will be used exclusively for the purpose of filing your tax return. We ensure all client data on our systems is completely cleared at the end of the day, or at the end of the individual tax session upon request.

  • The registration link to book a tax filing session is available on our website. We will be running in person on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 11 am to 5 pm. Our virtual clinics will run on Wednesdays and Fridays, from 11 am to 5 pm.

Each tax filing session is 45 minutes long, and we will hold your spot for 15 minutes after your session begins. If you arrive later than that, we cannot ensure your tax return will be completed, and you may have to book a different session on our website.

Please note, when registering for our tax clinic sessions, you will need to book a separate individual session for each tax year’s return that is to be filed. Our volunteers will not be able to help you file tax returns for multiple years in one session only.

  • To ensure we do not rush our tax volunteers in their operations, we will not be able to take any walk in tax return filings. Please ensure you have booked a tax filing appointment, and arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment only. If you are unable to make a booking due to specific circumstances, please email taxcoordinator@yfs.ca for further assistance.
