save transit now!

YURide

YURide is a campaign created after the York Region Transit (YRT/VIVA) and Metrolinx (GO Transit) made the active decision to discontinue their routes off the York University Keele Campus.

As of September 2nd 2018, York Regional Transit (YRT) will no longer drop off  passengers on campus. Instead, they end their bus routes at Pioneer Village Station at Steeles Avenue.

YRT users could spend over $1000 per year in additional transit fees if they want to take the TTC subway to York University Station. Users  who cannot afford these fees have to travel on foot or by wheelchair to campus which poses serious accessibility and safety risks.

We recognize that many students, staff, faculty and community members are now being forced to pay double fare. York  University is known as a commuter school and the capacity to access our campuses using various transit providers contributes to that. In order  to maintain direct and shorter commutes with one fair, we require all transit providers to stay on campus.

When the subway extension was announced we were promised that commuters would have better access to transit. Now we have a longer commute and dramatically increased transit costs.

Students on this campus should be able to physically access their education. As a campaigns team, we are dedicated to working towards a Universal Transit pass, and bringing transit back on to our Keele campus.
